Mastering the art of “letting go” can be difficult for business owners, but to avoid burn-out from overworking, delegation is a skill that must be learned.

Matt Dopkiss, co-founder of Dynamit, suggests four strategies to help business leaders master this art of letting go and learning to delgate:

  1. CLEARLY DEFINE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Make sure you know and communicate who does what in your company.
  2. EMPHASIZE ACCOUNTABILITY
Every person, from the top office – down, must know what they are accountable for to ensure clear expectations and goals are set and, ultimately, met.
  3. DEMOCRATIZE DECISION-MAKING
Allow your trusted employees, partners, Virtual Assistants (of course!) some authority to help with decision-making. Not every single, minute decision has to be overseen by “the boss.” Over managing can lead to burn out on your part.
  4. PAINT THE BIGGER PICTURE
Each person you work with must see how his or her work fits in with your business vision. This promotes a sense of pride and allows them to understand how even the smallest tasks matter immensely.

When you’ve worked the long hours and poured your life into building your business, the desire to want to be involved in every step is understandable. But when you build your team with trusted members, as mentioned above, the potential is limitless on how your business can soar. To read the full article on delegating, click here.
